子供は努力は無駄と考えてる？
私も人の親でして、子供たちが社会に出た時に困らないよう、教育しているつもりです。学校の成績だって良かったから、良い学校に行っていたから社会に出て成功するかというと、けしてイコールではありません。実際に私も、ここProFileで人気の同級生だったSさんも、学校での成績はあまり誉められたモノではありませんでしたが、色々と社会で経験し蓄積した知識で仕事をし、クライアントさまから認められているわけです。
こんな事から私は子供たちに、勉強しろとか良い点数を取れと口うるさく言わないよう、なるべく注意しています。・・・かみさんは熱心ですが。
それよりも自分が壁にぶつかった場合に、乗り越えようと考え、努力する事を学んで欲しいと考えるわけで、何よりその経験が自分自身にとって自信となり、社会に出てから仕事する上での糧になると思うからです。
子供たちは学校の宿題でも、塾からの課題でも漢字の書き取りになると、辞書を引いて漢字を捜すのではなく、携帯で漢字変換して書いています。辞書を引き調べると言う事は、目当ての漢字だけではなく、その周辺にある漢字までも、自然に頭に知識として蓄積されると言う、過程のメリットもあると考えるのに、努力せずにサッサと結果だけを求めようとします。
最近は仕事でも同じような傾向が・・・。
我々の職業である、グラフィックデザインという仕事ですが、DTPと言う形でコンピューターが入る前は、ほとんどが手作業で数字として10点満点で表すと、アイデア出しは2点くらい、要素となる写真やイラストの制作に3〜4点、デザインレイアウトに3点、版下作成に1〜2点と言ったところでしょうか。
仕事にコンピュータが入り、効率的に作業できるようになってからは、仕事の総量が10点から5点に減った感じがしてなりません。画面で大きな要素になる写真やイラストは、レンタルで処理し、イメージに合ったイラストや写真を新に作る事は少なくなりました。つまりお金と時間を掛け、回り道をしてまでも一つのモノを作り上げると言うよりも、レンタル写真と社員の作ったコピーで、簡単にサクサクッと広告を作ってしまう。と言ったような、いきなり結果を求めるような作り方が、多くなっている気がします。
一つのモノを作り上げるのに、効率を考え、少ない労力で作り上げる力、これはとても素晴らしい能力だと思います。学校でも問題をスラスラと解いてゆく、事務処理能力の高い優等生でしょう。しかしクリエイエティブの世界、特にディレクションの仕事では、事務処理能力の高い人間よりも、問題解決能力の高い人間が重宝されます。
つまり、これはクリエイティブと一口に言っても、グラフィックだけに限らず目的を考えるディレクターと、手段を効率よく完成させるデザイナーの二種類に分けられ、Webの世界でも同じ構図になっていると思います。結果を求め最短距離で目的地に向かう人よりも、失敗を経験し、経験を蓄積し回り道をしてきた、打たれ強い人の方が、クリエイターとしての資質の持ち主であり、変化する社会に対しての答えを出せるのではないのかと考えます。
