『老舗の極意』とは
昨日の朝日新聞夕刊の時事コラム欄『窓』に掲載されていた『老舗の極意』ですが、一部引用させていただくと、
老舗と呼ばれる長寿企業は、経営の指針としてどんなことを考えているのだろうか。漢字１字でたずねたら、「信」という答えが最も多かった。「信」と答えたのは回答全体の24%。以下、誠、継、心、真、和、変、新、忍、質という順になった。
一方、「社風を１字で表すと？」という問いでは、「和」が最多で19%だった。以下、信、誠、真、心、進、明、堅、温、笑の順。
企業が長生きして老舗になるには、顧客、取引先、従業員、株主などさまざまな関係者の利害が長期的に釣り合うような道を歩んでいかなければならない。信も和も、利害関係者の心の調和を示す言葉なのは偶然ではあるまい。
これはまさにCSR（企業の社会的責任）の考え方であり、老舗と言われる長寿企業が守り、実践した社訓でもあります。
しかしこの考え方はISOや、欧米から輸入された考え方ばかりではなく、江戸時代から続き、財閥と呼ばれた三井家や住友家、商売上手と言われていた近江商人の家訓として残っており、調和を尊ぶ日本人として経験的に実践されていたと考えても良いでしょう。
三井家家訓（宗竺遺書）
「多くをむさぼると紛糾のもととなる」
「不心得の一族は協議し、処分せよ」
住友家家訓
「職務に由り自己の利益を図るべからず」
「名誉を害し、信用を傷つくるの挙動あるべからず」
「廉恥を重んじ、貪汚の所為あるべからず」
「我営業は信用を重じ、確実を旨とし、以て一家の鞏固隆盛を期す」
近江商人の家訓
「三方よし」「売り手よし、買い手よし、世間よし」
老舗の極意 ＝ 繁栄の極意
この様に永続的な発展を目指した『老舗』として守るべき家訓ですが、情報量が限られた時代ならまだしも、Webと言うインフラが整備され、情報の質・量・スピードの全てがリミッターを外され、回り始めた現在では、企業の社会的責任というバックボーンが、ステークホルダーから見えていないと、商品広告にお金をつぎ込んでも、効率よく売上に繋がらなくなってきています。
企業が行うPR活動・IR活動とCSRは同義語ではありません。一部では頭に『環境』の言葉を付け、定義していますが、一企業市民として「持続可能な未来を、社会の要請を課題として、どのように考え築いていくか」を観点に活動してゆく事です。
しかし一言に社会と言っても範囲は広く、お客様を筆頭に株主や従業員とその家族、取引先や企業活動している地域社会と言った、全ステークホルダーを対象にと言い換えた方が分かりやすいかもしれません。
社会的に何か一つ大きな災害や事故などが起きると、社会の求めるものも変化してきます。
粉飾決算や産地偽装などが社会問題になると、財務状況や経営の透明性が問題になるでしょうが、先日の殺傷事件後は人権や雇用問題が台頭してきます。
当然社会的要求をクリアするためには、コスト上昇も受け入れなければならない事もあるでしょう。
しかし企業規模拡大を急いだライブドアは、今月13日の裁判で機関投資家に95億円の賠償を求める判決が出たばかりです。
太く短い生活は楽しいかもしれませんが、細く長い生活は充実しているかもしれませんよ。
